Nirosha makes short film

After staying away from the silver screen for a brief stint, yesteryear heartthrob Nirosha has bounced back, this time as a producer and director of short films. And she was honoured for one of her ventures by Finance Minister K Anbazhagan in Chennai recently.

Also honoured was ‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi, who too marked his presence with a short film. In his address, the Minister responded to a plea from the Producers' Guild to exempt short films from entertainment tax.

He said the State government has been helping the film industry in many ways and steps would be taken to waive the tax for short films. “Such ventures come with a valuable theme. They go a long way in sensitising the people,” he said at the function organised by the Small Savings Department.
Chennai Mayor M Subramanian said Small Savings departments of other States have approached the department seeking dubbing rights for all 38 short films. A Rahman Khan, Vice-Chairman, Department of Small Savings, M S Ramanujan, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region and C Uma Shankar, State Small Savings Department Commissioner also spoke.
The short films aimed at inculcating the habit of savings among the people will be screened at theatres all over Tamil Nadu soon. In Chennai, four films will be screened at the Elliots Beach at 7 pm every day till June 18.
